Our Story

In 1994, a group of children set up an art studio in Caol Primary School, in the Scottish Highlands. They formed a management team, opened a bank account and ran the studio as a business, appointing an adult Artist-in-Residence to work alongside them.
Today Room 13 is a charity registered in Scotland, with purpose-built studios in the village of Caol.
It provides young people ages 8-25 with consistent access to high quality creative opportunities, shaped by their own ambitions and collective decisions.

#WeAreRoom13

Many individuals, studios and communities around the world have drawn inspiration from this remarkable idea to become part of the Room 13 story.
If you’ve ever stepped inside any Room 13, anywhere in the world, you will know that studio means the world to those to whom it belongs. Room 13 is local, everywhere.

We deeply value the worldviews, art, ideas and ambitions of young people.
Our vision is for young people in our community to grow up with art and creativity embedded in their lives.
